The teaching facilities at Te Wharekura o Rākaumanga have recently been extensively upgraded and added to. In 2002, the teaching facilities were recabled with Molex cable for computer network capability.  All classrooms are equipped with a maximum of 5 (thin-client) computers each.  Facilities include:

The two Fraser type buildings relocated from the original site have been remodeled and upgraded. These two buildings provide six teaching spaces. The teaching areas have been redesigned so they may either operate as single cell units or open (via the use of concertina acoustic doors) onto each other so large group activities can be carried out or team teaching situations operated. Each Fraser block has a withdrawal room attached for small group purposes.

The western side Fraser block also comprises the junior school resource rooms (2) as well as a unisex disabled toilet and shower area. Two offices and a computer patch panel have been added to the building.  The Rūnanga storage room (for official documents) is also in this building. A toilet block is at the end of the southern Fraser building. Two other prefabricated style buildings are linked to the western Fraser building, with an internal access way. A toilet block separates the two prefabricated buildings. All teaching spaces open onto a covered raised walkway, which links all the buildings.

The rest of the teaching facilities have been positioned on site to represent an unfurling frond. At the centre of the frond is the schools Information Centre.

The Information Centre is circular in construction and comprises an administration area, a student work area with seven computers, a computer cable patch panel, a photocopier, a text display/storage area (fiction and non-fiction material), a video conference room and a materials storage area.

A covered raised walkway spirals outwards from the Information Centre linking the rest of the school’s general teaching areas (6) and specialist buildings.

These general teaching areas and specialist buildings have as part of their design a teacher office/storage area and standard general teaching equipment such as telephone ports and computers. These are linked to the main server in the computer suite, as well as TV/Video monitors, which are networked from the main port in the Tumuaki's office.

The specialist buildings comprise a Laboratory, a Computer Suite, an Art and Craft Suite, a Music Suite, a Technology-Hard materials suite, a Technology-Soft materials Suite, a Food Technology Suite and a Gymnasium.

The Laboratory has a general teaching area with sinks, gas fittings and flue chamber, a separate room for preparations and another room for chemical storage.

The Computer Suite has specially designed lighting and tables with adjustable keyboard pads. A storage unit for the school’s servers is situated at one end of the suite.

All 25 computers in the suite are networked, have CD ROM multimedia capability and are linked to the Internet. The laser printer and scanner are also part of the network. Special cooling units have been fitted in the suite.

The Music Suite is located adjacent to the main thoroughfare to the Hardcourt activities area at the north end of the school. It comprises an equipment storage room, a general teaching area, a practice room, which is also used as the studio for the schools radio station, and an office/storage area.

The Art and Craft Suite is separated from the Music Suite by the Photography Darkroom. The art and Craft Suite is a large open plan building with the wet area and storage cabinets located along the length of the north facing windows. The office and specialist equipment storage area is at the west end of the building. The electric kiln is located immediately outside the western exit from the Art and Craft Suite. The kiln is housed inside a caged area. Potting benches, water facilities and shelves for storing work-to-be-fired are also located within the caged area.
