This year the school was involved in organizing the National Area Schools Tournament, held in Hamilton during the first week of the second term holidays. The school had representatives in the following sports codes: netball, basketball and rugby.

This year students who participated were selected for either Northern or Southern regional teams, from which a National team was picked. Rakaumanga had a number of representatives who were picked for the Northern team. They were: basketball (Mihi Hope, Tina Timoti, Jazmyn Dewes), netball (Maea Heremia, Tina Timoti), rugby (Lance Tawha, Kane Tumai, Puke Timoti). Congratulations to Tina Timoti and Jazmyn Dewes were picked for the New Zealand Area Schools Team (basketball).
